In Plato’s writings, love is sometimes described as the desire to recognize again the part of ourselves we have lost.
As Rilke imagined it, it can also be a profound intimacy in which two solitudes are able to protect one another without causing harm.
As if you do not see a soul for the first time, but simply encounter it for the first time in this life.
In this work, I was also thinking about our alternative lives,
about the possibility of other lives in different universes.
Who would we be in another life? How would we live? Whom would we love?
And if our paths had truly crossed in another dimension,
would we still recognize one another here, in this life?
The title of this work is You.
Because love is at its centre — but not a simple, one-dimensional kind of love.
It is more like that old sense of familiarity and resemblance that suddenly appears within you when you meet a stranger.
In a café, in a restaurant, while passing someone on the street…
As if the moment is happening for the first time, yet your soul has known it for a very long time.
Perhaps, in another dimension, these two souls belonged to the same time.
But in this version, they are not together.
They meet only for a brief moment.
And yet, they recognize one another.
…..
Perhaps sometimes, this is exactly what love is.
You love someone not because you want to possess them, but because you remember them from somewhere — because you see a part of yourself in them.
In the person before you, you sense an essence that feels deeply familiar.
Another form of the same light, the same wound, the same longing.
That is why, here, “you” does not simply mean “you.”It also means that deep intimacy the soul already recognizes.Perhaps I have not seen you for the first time.Perhaps I am only seeing you for the first time in this life. And perhaps, across all universes, you have always already meant “me.”
